In 18th Century Naples, the arrival of Mirta will cast shadows upon the life of the alchemist Prince, Raimondo di Sangro. For the priestesses of Demetra know no forgiveness. Rome, 1751. Elena, priestess of the Order of the Goddess Demetra, is to be incarcerated by the Holy Inquisition. The woman, already knowing what fate awaits her, writes a letter to her daughter Mirta – a testament of love and truth. Little Mirta’s life – the heir to the Mysteries of Eleusi – is entrusted to her grandmother, Antonia. Together, the two flee from the axe of the Inquisition to Naples. In the lively chaos of the city, they find shelter in San Biagio dei Librai with a family friend, a collector of antique books and printer. Mirta’s story – a child whose occult powers make her different from her peers – becomes inextricably entwined with Raimondo di Sangro, the Prince of Sansevero. A paragon of alchemic tradition and Grand Master of the Stonemasons of Naples, the Prince dedicates his work to daring scientific and magical experiments. He is helped by the esoteric relics which he stole from the Order by tricking Elena, whom he had seduced during an orgiastic rite. In a spiral of suspicion, mysteries and emotions, the time comes for Mirta to fall in love for the first time – yet also to discover that she is Raimondo di Sangro's daughter.
